Ely Sonny Orquiza
Ely Sonny Orquiza is a multidisciplinary Actor, Director, and Teaching Artist based in the San Francisco, Bay Area. He is the Founder and Artistic Facilitator of the Projector Room Play Readings Ensemble, an indie theatre group committed to uplift and introduce queer and multiethnic voices onstage. He teaches in residency for the American Conservatory Theater, Cutting Ball Theater and the New Conservatory Theater Center. His teaching strategy intersects theatre and education with an emphasis on teaching inter/personal life skills through an actor’s craft. Ely has previously worked on the world premiere of John Adam’s GIRLS OF THE GOLDEN WEST directed by Peter Sellars at the San Francisco Opera and is currently working as an Assistant Director on the Bay Area premiere of Qui Nguyen’s (_Vietgone_) BEGETS: FALL OF A HIGH SCHOOL RONIN for the American Conservatory Theater’s Young Conservatory. Ely has been in various work at Playwrights’ Center, Playwright’s Foundation, Theatre Rhinoceros, Cal Performances, San Francisco Opera, Campo Santo, African-American Shakespeare Company, and Bindlestiff Studio. In the Spring, he will be on tour with NCTC’s Youth Aware production of OUTSPOKEN. Ely holds a BA in Theater and Performance Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
